The redshirt senior was out for the majority of this season after sustaining an injury. He did however get to come into the Texas Tech game and make a few plays including a pick-six. In 2019 and 2020 Sterling had a combined 144 tackles with 19 for loss, 2 sacks, 3 interceptions, and 12 pass breakups. Tre was a huge part of making that Oklahoma State defense what it was over the past few seasons.
Sterling was named Honorable-Mention All-Big 12 twice in a row in 2019 and 2020.
