We’re just two days away from football season. With new quarterback Taylor Cornelius taking the reigns on Thursday, I thought it would be appropriate to look back on the career of his predecessor No. 2 Mason Rudolph.

With a Heisman campaign and countless records during his time at Oklahoma State, it’s safe to say that Mason Rudolph will make his name known as one the best quarterbacks of the Gundy era, maybe even in school history.

Rudolph has the most wins for quarterback in Oklahoma State history. He lead his team to a 32-9 record as a starter. He also has a Bedlam win under his belt. Let’s take a look at the highlights from that game shall we?

His passing in this game helped the Pokes get past OU’s defense. You hear the announcers say at the beginning that if they were going to beat Oklahoma they were going to have to do it through the air. That’s exactly what they did. This was really college football’s introduction to Rudolph and what an intro it was.

Rudolph help turn around the Cowboy’s season that year and helped them get to a bowl game and win it. Rudolph was thrown into the deep end and did exactly what was expected of him.

After that, He lead Oklahoma State to three straight 10-win seasons. He has set that expectation for Oklahoma State fans in the future.

Rudolph currently holds the record for career passing yards and it’s not even close. Rudolph’s 13,618 yards surpassed Brandon Weeden’s 9,260 yards for the record.

Rudolph’s passing game, along with Oklahoma State’s arsenal of talent at wide receiver made Oklahoma State one of best offenses in the country during his time leading the Oklahoma State offense.

His senior season was topped off with winning the Johnny Unitas Award. In case you need to know just how special Rudolph was to this program just take a look at this video from Orange Power Studios:

Rudolph’s career is one that Oklahoma State fans will remember for a long time. Now were going to get the treat of watching him keep making passes to James Washington on Sundays.
